Today's dreary and moody conditions are perfect for discovering cinematic history at Meads Wall, where several scenes from The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers were filmed.
Finding Meads Wall is easy – park in the carpark at the top of Bruce Road and head past the bottom of the Rangatira Express chairlift towards the wall.

There are unlimited discoveries here at Mt Ruapehu. Students from One Tree Point School set off on a hike this morning from the Whakapapa base area to discover some snow that remains on the upper mountain. We have a variety of volcanic walks waiting to be discovered... See you soon!
Massive thanks to the team of Year 13 Whangaparaoa College students and staff who have come to help out on the Refuse Recovery Project for the third year in a row here at Mt Ruapehu. We had a team of 31 working down the Tennent's Valley last night after driving from Auckland for their school camp. We managed to collect one cubic meter of waste from the environment, which is a really cool effort. Thanks guys!
