Here's where we are: the "helpful" stick say 8" at the base. There's probably another couple inches up top. Not the big one, but a great base builder for sure! We're trying to open the classic "Trick to Show Off" tomorrow morning at 10am with the Red Chair spinning. Kinderspiel could also be in the mix. If it opens, It will be recommended only for advanced and expert skiers given the relatively thin cover still at the top and work road (Wand). The beginner handle tow is having some work done to it so it may not be ready until the afternoon. The Tube Park will be open again.
The temps are expected to drop tomorrow night and we will be back making snow. This storm wasn't the monster to get everything open but there are more of these to come and Magic is now set up for all its terrain to get open with another storm and key west side trails soon with cold snowmaking weather!
The building blocks are now in place for a great season ahead! More to come on whether we open for Friday...
And snow it begins...
We will keep you posted about possible openings post-storm. Most likely advanced/expert skiing only on limited and variable terrain when we do open sometime after storm due to no base on upper half of mountain because of recent weather. Snowmaking is in progress at top until we lose temps around noon. Mountain is closed to uphill ski/snowboard traffic until we spin Red Chair whenever we open to preserve and protect what does fall over the next 24 hours. Keep you posted as we see what happens. Remember, there's a long season ahead still. Respect ropes for your safety. Thank you.
Relationship Status: Open for Tubing, Beginner Area and a whole lot of Black Line Tavern. Still seeking consistently cold winter partner, er pattern, for top-of-mountain fun. http://www.magicmtn.com/alpine-update
Never a dull day here...new assembly being installed on Black Chair; repair work to major blow out of critical air line for snowmaking which shut us down last night; race training on Show Off via snowmobile; skiing and lessons at the handle tow beginner area; and fast-action tubing.
Tonight at Black Line Tavern we have the SoVT premier of "Last Tracks" ski environmental movie at 5 and 7pm.
Temps won't allow snowmaking to resume until Wednesday probably so we are looking at a late week opening for top-to-bottom skiing if all goes well. Lots to do. Keeping at it!
